Floyd M. Beswick, 81, of 85 North St., died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg.

Mr. Beswick operated the family farm and was a custodian at Canton Agricultural and Technical College until his retirement in 1980.

Born June 15, 1925, on the family farm, Westaway Road, son of Morris and Lola Kingsbury Beswick, he was a graduate of Madrid High School. He married Dorothy G. Atkins on Sept. 21, 1968, at the United Methodist Church, Rensselaer Falls. She died Sept. 15, 2000.

He was a member of Gideons International, Madrid Historical Society, St. Lawrence County Historical Society and Madrid Cemetery Association board of directors, and was a life member of Morley Wesleyan Church, where he served on the board of administration.

Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Linda and Steven Spence, Winthrop; a brother and his wife, Burton T. and Betty, Madrid; a sister and her husband, the Rev. Edwin and Helen Seaman, South Glens Falls; a granddaughter, two grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

A daughter, Kathy Marie Beswick, died in 1987. A sister, Mary Place, also died before him.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Morley Wesleyan Church with the Rev. James F. Bretzinger officiating. Burial will be in Madrid Cemetery.

Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today at Phillips Memorial Home, Madrid, and noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Donations may be made to Morley Wesleyan Church Memorial Fund, Gideons International, in care of James Hargrave, or Madrid Historical Society.
